Practice, Practice, Practice

This week, we are practicing our skills at concrete sculpting, all in preparation for the 2nd stage in our exciting project for Clarence Dillon Library Community Garden.

Rather that giving them an ordinary white post, we have decided to step it up and give them a tree sculpted out of concrete. Not only will this be an awesome addition to our original plans, but it will give us a chance to break out the mig welder and explore the possibilities of concrete sculpting in sign work.

To firm up our skills before working on the tree we will sharpen our skill on a few practice boards and a new faux stone skirt to the shops showroom bay window.

Handmade by Gary Wins First Place in USSC Contest

Handmade by Gary, the self promotional sign I produced for the showroom just won 1st Place in an international sign design competition sponsored by the United States Sign Council. I am honored to win such a prestigious award and am very grateful to be so recognized by my peers in the sign business. I will be receiving the actual award, December 3rd, at the annual USSC Convention in Atlantic City. A picture of the sign will also be featured on one month the 2012 USSC Calendar.

Tipsy Moose Sign Featured in Sign Builder Illustrated Magazine

I just received a letter from the editor of Sign Builder Illustrated Magazine announcing that “Handmade by Gary” had been chosen to be featured the upcoming December issue, in the design category section of the awards & notables wrap-up. The editor Jeff Wooten also expressed some interest in featuring another one of our signs “Tipsy Moose Tavern” in the November issue. It will be a stand alone feature talking about how I designed and created the Tipsy sign.
